Words & Paintery November Challenge

Hi everyone!

How have you been? I am having so much trouble adjusting to these short and dark days. I'd love to crawl into my bed for a nice, long wintersleep. The couch is a good second though ;)
And despite my brandnew led-lights, my craft space is still not appealing enough to me.
Luckily I could find some time to craft during the weekends.

Upon seeing the color scheme of this month's Words & Paintery challenge, (which went live November 15 and will end December 15, so join us!) I immediately knew I wouldn't be doing a layout, but a mixed media item.

You can find the link to the challenge here:

Check out the designteam's interpretations and show us yours as well!

The quote "It's hard to hold a candle in the cold november rain" (from the famous Guns 'n Roses song of course) is very befitting of the month and rain here, but wasn't easy to incorporate.

I decided to alter a heart shaped canvas, and went with a black background, to emphasise the darkness. The lightbulb is a substitute for the candle (which is hard to hold) and down the Relics and Artifacts Cast Visage face shape roll some tears.

I would also like to submit this canvas for the
scrapki-wyzwaniowo november challenge: lightbulbs

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The steps:

Paint the heart shaped canvas (it's about 8" wide) with black gesso.

Add #Prima #texturepaste #graphite through
the #TimHoltz #stencil 'Rays' (THS003).

Spray some #TatteredAngels #glimmermist 'Antique Brass'
over the textured areas before removing the stencil.

Using #Versamark and Tim Holtz #distress #embossing powder
'Tattered Rose', stamp a lace image onto the bottom half of the heart.

Collect some of the elements you want to use and create your composition.
A clock seemed befitting, because time can be a healer, but it can go too slow as well.

Paint the chipboard swirl and clock with black gesso.
The face is painted with Prima #opalpaint violet-gold here, but I changed that later on.

Blend Prima white #crackle paste with Prima #FrankGarcia #MemoryHardware
#ArtisanPowder 'Black' and apply it around the face.

Once dry (again: allow the crackle paste to AIR DRY), cover the paste (and face) in black gesso. Using several mica powders in pink shades, brush them onto the face and chipboard and spray some water to blend them. I used Prima Memory Hardware 'Antoinette Pink' but it was too orange for my liking, so I blended it with a different shade of pink.

Adhere some gauze, Prima Mini #Artstones and #13Arts #glassfiller with gel medium,
framing the face. Glue a white resin rose on the place of the eye socket.

Paint the gauze black with gesso. Add some clear crackle paste onto the face and swirl and clock.
Once dry, brush them with the powders used before, until desired color and effect are achieved.

Add some metal embellishments, like a Prima lightbulb and metal frame.
Powder the face and its surroundings, as well as parts of the clock with the pink powders
and spray some water onto the area to blend everything.

Splatter the pink powders, brass glimmermist, Tattered Angels #Decor & DIY paint 'Rose',
#Finnabair rust paste gold rust and black gesso all over the heart. Don't forget the sides!

Fill a little glass bottle with assorted beads and microbeads in gold.
Glue the bottle into the frame, making it look like its contents spilled out.
Make a trail of beads over the left side of the face and sprinkle some where desired.

Brush some black gesso over the golden beads to subdue their color and make them more vintage.
Add some more metal embellishments, like the circular text tag, clock hands, little medaillon with a number, small clock, 2 pins with starshaped ends and some pink and brass wire.
The pink wire goes around the clock, the yellow around the bottle.
Repeat the splattering and add some touches of #Inkagold 'Rose Quartz' and 'Old Gold'.
(I applied the gold shade around the edges.)
Add some touches of Tattered Angels #Glimmerglam 'Grandma's House' where desired.

I will leave you with some more close-ups. Comments and questions are always welcome!
