Back to show you some more Easter crafting. Or I thought it would be approppiate to use this bunny picture of Connor and me, regarding Easter ;)

I'm no fan of the Snapchat pictures usually, but my brother did this one of Connor and me and I kinda loved it. Connor loved it too, he said we looked so sweet.
To enhance the spring feeling I used fresh and vibrant colors of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, and a mosaic flower pattern as backgound. I'll show you the rest on the CCB Blog...

Weathered Copper Egg

Hi everyone,

Yes, Easter is almost near...

Will you be doing anything special? We are going to do some Family visits and hopefully get some extra sleep.

Last weekend we went on a City Trip to beautiful Barcelone, Spain. This trip was a gift from my work, because of our company's 25 year anniversary. In a way I was looking forward to it, but in another way not at all. It meant Connor (our son) would have to sleep over at my dad's for 4 nights, you see...

In retrospective, all went very well and we didn't miss him as much as we thought we would. We called every day, and he let us reassure the number of nights he still had to stay at grandpa's before we would pick him up again. When the trip back home had begun, I couldnt wait to hold him again. After a good night's sleep, of course.

Barcelone is a beautiful city with treasures like churches and beautiful buildings lurking around every corner. I regret not being able to visit Sagrada Familia. For me, the most unexpected beautiful part of the trip was Park Guell. I pictured it wrong, somehow. Like a bench with mosaic and...? To my surprise the park was rather large and filled with lustrous green and felt so serene and peaceful. And Gaudi's work? Wow. The way that man's mind works, has left me puzzling and wondering and in awe, ready to discover more.

I'm filled and inspired and maybe you'll see a project influenced by him, or using one of the pictures I took, or cards I bought, in the near future.

For now, back to EASTER.

Upcycled an old flower pot with paper flowers and foliage, using the Tattered Angels Naturally Aged Paint Kit 'Weathered Copper' and Tattered Angels High Impact Paint 'Copper'.

Mixed media canvas "First...vacation"

Hey all,

Have you seen the new challenge over at Canvas Corp Brands? Are you going to give it a try? I simply adore the summery moodboard!

When asked which one of the crew wanted to provide an example, I jumped upon the chance immediately! The pictures of Connors first vacation abroad, last year, were still waiting to be scrapped. 

And this theme gave me the chance to finally give the new Mixed Media origins papers a try as well! I received them only a couple of days before so I was very curious. 

The paper feels more like a fabric and though supple to handle, cannot be torn. It needs to be cut. (Meaning it doesn't tear up easily when you get it all wet with your mediums, very good!)

So cutting the paper was my starting point, since the canvas I wanted to use was wider than the sheet. (The canvas measures 12 by 16 inches)

I adhered the 2 pieces of paper to my canvas using gel medium. The section of the Canvas that wasn't covered with paper, became my sandy path. Put gel medium on it and then bird sand (for an actual bird from a store carrying pet supplies). After allowing it to dry, I shook off the excess.

Around the edges of the Canvas and along the edges of the sand path, I applied white crackle paste.


 I let this dry overnight and then started my coloring by spraying Tattered Angels glimmermist 'chalkboard French Vanilla' on the sand path because it was too white for my liking.


For the seahorse I used two shades of Tattered Angels glimmerglam to get the perfect color, 'Tailfin' and 'Blue Topaz'. I then covered the seahorse with one step (translucent) crackle medium by Tim Holtz and sprinkled some microbeads and 13 Arts glass filler on top of it. Let it all (air) dry, sprayed some Tattered Angels Glimmermist "crushed shells" to emphasise the cracks and get a more vibrant color.

I proceeded to color the other parts of the paper with different shades of Tattered Angels glimmermist: patina for the sky, crushed seashells for the lighthouse, edges covered with crackle paste and seahorse's background, maya blue for the compass and some drips on the page.

Colored some Scrapiniec chipboard seaweed pieces with Tattered Angels glimmerglam Caspian Sea and tiny glass beads. Glued them to the bottom corners of the Canvas, let them dry and then added real seastars, shells and some small chippies like a steering wheel, anchor and seahorses.

The Canvas Corp aqua Burlap flower came on a little too strong for my taste, so I simply covered the edges with white gesso.
Underneath the burlap flower is a fabric tag, which I gave a more distressed look by brushing and spraying Tattered Angels glimmermists 'Crushed seashells' and 'Maya blue' onto it, plus a little white gesso.
Onto the tag I used tiny letter stickers for my text. (Unfortunately my initial idea wouldn't fit...)
I mounted a Scrapiniec Monograce 'F' (altered with glimmermist, glimmerglam and white gesso) onto a slice of wood and added a little seagull and some little shells. Tied the bottle filled with sand to one of the burlap flower's loose threads.

Alongside my pictures I adhered straws to create borders. Underneath the picture is a little cardstock doilie I coated with white gesso, some 'shell discs' and some sisal thread.

Wrapped the corners and sides with some netting. 

The clusters of shells are complemented by some microbeads, small 13 Arts glass beads  and flass filler and Prima/Finnabair art pebbles. Completed with a bit of white crackle paste here and there, for example on the chipboard seahorse. Followed by Tattered Angels glimmermists of course.

This picture sort of captured the beautiful twinkle that the glittermists and glass beads gave in the sunlight.

Normally I scrap more elaborate, but I didn't want to overshadow the beautiful paper. Plus the 2 pictures made the canvas full pretty quickly.

Altered clock "3 Generations, 1 Passion" CCB May challenge!

Today I would like to show what I made as an example for the May challenge that the Canvas Corp Brands cooked up for you guys!

The Canvas Corp 'Heirloom' paper series are perfect for scrapping your family history. When I laid my eyes on the paper 'Cameras on Ivory' I had an idea immediately. 

My mom, her dad and I love(d) taking pictures very much. Something in our genes I guess. My grandfather photographed professionally (he was a detective) but loved doing it as a hobby as well. My mother always loved taking pictures as well, and I am also known for always dragging my camera everywhere ;)

Lucky enough I own a picture of my grandfather holding his camera, and another picture (he took) of my mom. Holding that same camera that I have in my possession still. Sadly it's broken beyond repair, but I cherish owning a camera that meant so much to my grandfather. A man I hardly knew since he passed away when I was 1,5 years old. Which makes him all the more enigmatic to me.

The fact that my dear mom in her late teens is portrayed holding that same camera means so much more to me now she's gone as well. I'm so proud to follow in both their footsteps.

Anyway, "3 Generations, 1 Passion" seemed a very appropriate sentence. And altering an old clock seemed the right choice for a project depicting several generations...

I started out by cutting a circle from the 'Black & kraft reverse sonnet' Canvas Corp paper to fit in the middle section.

Once this was glued down, I blended crackle paste with black gesso to cover the outer edges and inner circle transitions.

When it was dry, I sprayed some 'Boardwalk' glimmermist over the painted sections as well as the rest. 

I cut out some of the 'Heirloom life story' cards and adjusted them so they would fit underneath my pictures. Made small cuts at the top and bottom to shove the pictures in. 

From the 'cameras on ivory' Heirloom paper I fussy cut some cameras to use as embellishments. 

The flowers that weren't in the correct colors, were sprayed with several glimmermists, Pomegranate, Periwinkle Bouquet, Pink Coral.

The word 'Generations' was painted with Glimmerglam Tanzanite first, then covered in plain white glue, then painted with Decor & Diy Rose. The white glue was supposed to make it crack but it didn't quite work out that way. However, I like the structure the word has now, because it sort of looks like leather. Of course I wasn't satisfied with the color just yet so I sprayed some more glimmermists on it.

The 'Tanzanite' glimmerglam had a mind of its own and chose to color more than just the few flowers I had intended to do....

Made up my title by using tags and typewriter key stickers, which I coated with one step crackle medium.

Added transparant baubles to emphasise the cameras/lens in the pictures. Used some Rusty Paper on the clock hands and some other things. Added leaves, flowers and berries, some (real) light bulbs, old (real and empty) negatives and splattered everything with the 'Decor & Diy rose' paint.

 

My grandfather, Ale (yes, I know, it means 'beer', LOL) and my mother, Henriëtte.

"Live, Love Laugh (Almost 3)" Mixed media layout 'Finnabair style'

"Live, love, laugh (Almost 3)"

Hi everyone,

I'm here to show you the first layout that is published upon the Canvas Corp Brands blog! I am so proud! 

When I made these pictures of Connor to use for his upcoming 3rd birthday invitation, I already saw a lovely layout in my mind, with emphasis on the brown and mint. 

Soooo, this "Live love laugh" paper from Canvas Corp from their Kraft series, went perfect with the merry picture! Don't worry about all the black gesso, you won't even know it's there once it's finished. I hope ;)

The embellishments were picked out to suit Connor at this age: numbers, cars, planes, trains, gears, puzzle pieces (I actually used a cheap puzzle of Connor, ssshhh, don't tell him!) and some quirky arrows, stars and feathers because what else can you use for boys that isn't girly like flowers?

Also, I drew some quirky lines with my glue gun.
You may wanna skip the next step I took though... I burnt my fingers terribly when a star covered in hot glue fell and I picked it up. I do burn myself occasionally while using the glue gun, but this time it was different! My finger felt like it was on fire and even after holding it in lukewarm running water, it kept burning. I had to delay my layout  (and almost everything else!) for hours. By then it was evening and I was too tired. The day after I approached my glue gun with new feelings...

My colleague gave me the hint to put a bowl of water near while using my glue gun. If anything happens dip your fingers straight into the bowl! 

So finally I was able to piece all my embellishments together.

Next came the time-consuming gesso'ing. Turned all of the embellishments white.

Oh dear, what's she doing now? I had a brilliant idea you probably shouldn't copy, because it didn't really work out anyway. I wanted to 'gesso' the edges black. And the edges of the embellishments too. But that didn't go smoothly, so I just dabbed some more black on the surfaces.

Then, against better knowledge, I sprayed the whole shebang with glimmermist. At first just the 'Verdigris'. VERY shimmery indeed. But it didn't cover up the fugly, harsh black spots I had made. What to do? 

Let's give the white gesso mixed with 13Arts Magic Powder (for more texture) a try, by dabbing it on with a foam brush. Like I learned from someone the other day. 

Wowzers! That worked incredibly well! 

But it became a bit too boring for my taste, so I sprayed some more glimmermist. Verdigris, Rolling Tide and even some Boardwalk to darken it up. Still not satisfied, I brushed everything with a bit of Goldenbrown Inka Gold

There. All done. Gave the (already distressed) edges a little spray too and then I wrapped some iron wire around my embellishments. To spice it up a bit.

So here you have it. Hope you like it. I for one am happy with the outcome. And believe me, I am not always.
