Canvas Corp Brands Challenge Reminder "Christmas where you are"

Hi everyone,

Did you see the December challenge over at  the Canvas Corp Brands blog?
The moodboard is a very loose inspiration, the idea is that you create something showing us what Christmas is like where you live. You still have until January 5, 2017 to compete!

As a reminder, I created a project of my own. You can see how I did it, in the
Canvas Corp Brands Challenge Reminder blogpost, with step by step pictures and a supply list.
So please, hop on over there if you're interested in creating something similar!

Hoping to have sparked your imagination to create your own shabby chic and rustic Christmas decoration, I will leave you with some close-ups.
Maybe I'll see your entry in our challenge!

For now, Happy Holidays.
And Happy Scrapping.

No, don't worry, it's not set on fire, as someone thought ;)
I wrapped a LED light string around the embroidery hoop.
Which you can see in the Canvas Corp Brands post!

"Cutest Pumpkin in the Patch" altered mixed media box fall

Hi everyone!
I'm here to show you my interpretation of the latest Canvas Corp Brands September #challenge. It's being featured on the Canvas Corp Brands blog today! In case you're interested to know how and what I did, I'm asking that you head on over to the Canvas Corp Brands blog. I will show you some close-ups, but the step by step is on their blog.

My little box is Autumn themed and as you can see on the moodboard, almost anything goes! The form of your art can be anything you like too. Please check out the link to their challenge and consider playing along, you have until October 5th so no excuses ;)
Not only do they have some great prizes up for grabs, you will also be invited as a guest designer in December! How cool is that?

Before you click the link to find out, I hope you'll have a look at some of the close-ups of my project though. The box is 8 by 8 inches big and from #Scrapiniec.
The picture shows my husband putting our boy Connor, little over 7 months back then, amidst a whole bunch of pumpkins. I wanted to continue the pumpkins '3D' and went on a miniature-pumpkin hunt some weeks before everything fall-related finally hit the stores. I succeeded in a huge garden centre though.

These adorable #chipboard gates are from Scrapiniec also and I had a blast aging them. (I'll show you how on the Canvas Corp Blog!)

It's getting old, but these chipboard spiderwebs are also from Scrapiniec.
The 'cutest pumpkin in the patch' was made from a wood frame and aged, chalkboard sticker and some stamping. Again, the explanation is on the Canvas Corp blog!

Fall Dreamcatcher 'Words & Paintery' September challenge

Hi everybody!
Back to show you my third project as a 'Words & Paintery' designteam member already,
can you believe it?
You can find the current #challenge here:
You have until October 15 to play along with us!

At first the pink part of the moodboard had me worried...
But it blended in beautifully with the fall-themed brown and orange!
The quote screamed 'FALL' to me. And I had the perfect picture to add to it... My pouting little boy, who refused to pose and smile for me last year during Fall. (My gosh, this picture is almost a year old?!) Suddenly the quote becomes a little sarcastic ;)

I wanted to do this project #dreamcatcher style and decided to use this embroidery hoop of 8 inches broad. Though instead of the normal dreamcatcher 'webbing' I made a #spiderweb instead. Seemed more befitting to the theme and season! I used hemp cord to do it. (If you don't quite remember the technique from kindergarten anymore, #Google is your friend!)

Since I seem to use various sorts of #rust paste on all my projects lately, this one was no exception. Viva Decor's #Rustypaper was applied to this one and allowed to dry. Once dry, I applied some #Prima #Finnabair #rustpaste as well, in the orange color. I sort of wanted to mimic wood and didn't want to use branches, and wrapping ribbon around the hoop didn't tickle my fancy either.

Next step: adding ribbon and wool to the lower half of the hoop. I used some #burlap ribbon, some blended wool and later on I added some #seambinding ribbon in the exact shade of pink of the color scheme. Sadly I neglected to take pictures of the spraying of the seambinding ribbon with #TatteredAngels #glimmermist in the colors 'Peach Delight' and 'Rusty Red'. Drying this with your heatgun while you have crumpled it will give you permanent creases.
Just beware not to melt the ribbon...

Then came the time to adhere leaves, both fabric and wood,
and later on some acorns, to the ribbons.
I attached them with my glue gun.

Time to embellish the center of the dreamcatcher.
I matted the picture onto a piece of burlap of which I frayed and inked the edges.
I lay the picture down onto two slices of wood and some more leaves. Added some acorns, a little wood fox, mushrooms, berries and metal leaves.
When everything was in place I splattered my project with white #gesso,
 blended with glimmermist 'Walnut Gold'.
The word 'Fall' is a #Scrapiniec #chipboard of which I cut off the '#'.
Painted it with glimmermist #chalkboard 'Baby Pink',
then added some #glimmerglam 'Golden Godess' with a brush.
After that I added some one step #crackle medium.

On the picture below you can see some of the seambinding ribbon on the left. Love its texture after crumpling, and the way the colors blend. Or are more like spots. Gives it a vintage feel!

Well, I hope my take on the moodboard inspired you to participate as well! Remember, you have until October 15 to play along!
Comments and questions are always welcome!

"We don't remember days..." mixed media layout

Hi all,
Finally made time to blog about my most recent layout. When the days are getting shorter, I find the need to cuddle up on the couch and watch telly gets bigger...
The #Kaisercraft paper from their 'Blue Bay Collection' had been on my mind some time already, and I had the perfect picture of Connor to use alongside with it. Or so I thought. Turns out the backgroundpapers weren't all that for my vision, so I chose another paper from the 'Craft Sensations' 'Timeless Memories' collection.

I started out by stenciling a brick pattern following the lines of the pattern on the paper. I used #Prima #texturepaste #crakle white mixed with #Tatteredangels #glimmermist 'Rusty Red'. Once done I sprayed a little more of said glimmermist on the paper and sprinkled some Prima mini #artstones to emphasize the stone roughness. Then came the long wait until it had dried.

The color turned out too red for my liking, so I sprayed some glimmermist 'Navyblue' over the bricks.

A friend of mine, Jetty, had made some beautiful white flowers to color myself. I sprayed some of them with glimmermist 'Verdigris' and others with 'Navy Blue'. I simply love the effect the 'Verdigris' mist gives!

as some additional features, I used some #Scrapiniec #chipboard backgrounds in Moroccan pattern. Small and bigger. I gave them a coat of white gesso, then blended some #13Arts gel medium with glimmermist 'Walnut Gold' and blended that with Prima mini artstones. That was applied over the pieces of chipboard.

Sprinkled some 13Arts 'Mika flakes' Dark blue over my page, especially on the embellishments.
Cut the shutters and doors and bits of text from the #Kaisercraftpaper 'Sky Blue' from the 'Blue Bay Collection' and gave all of them a coat of translucent one step #craklemedium.

Wrapped some dark blue string around my picture, and stapled it into place.

added some bits of sisal string here and there, tucked away.

Sprayed some glimmermist to the left side of my focusing point and let that drip so the lines would be horizontal as well. Stamped some text with black ink alongsides the centre.

Above and below the picture I added a little Scrapiniec chipboard frame which I cut in half. First I #heat embossed it with golden embossing powder. Didn't like the outcome, added a little Tattered Angels #glimmerglam 'Tail Fin'.

Splattered some white all over my page to give it a finishing coherent look.

Hope you like it! Questions and comments are always welcome!

Mixed Media Layout "Laid to ruins", 'Words & Paintery' Designteam July challenge

Hi everyone!

Today I'm proudly blogging about my debut as an official Words & Paintery designteam member!
I applied for their designteam call some time ago. You can't imagine how happy I was when I got mail welcoming me to the team!
Upon seeing July's color challenge that happiness diminished a little though, LOL. The pink was especially difficult to me because I felt I couldn't use a picture of Connor. Since it had to sort of beach related I suddenly thought about Brightons "West Pier".

You can play along with our challenge until August 15! We'd love to see what you come up with! Click here!

During our first vacation to England In 1996, my husband and I visited Brighton and we were impressed by the beautiful, decaying 'West Pier'. Built in Victorian Times, as one of Britain's greatest piers.
Ever since the 1970's it fell into neglect, crumbling into the sea brick by brick, succumbed to storms, has been set on fire. We came back several years to watch it become nothing more than a small carcass of the majestic beauty and glory it had once been.
Apparently restoring it would have been too costly. It's heartbreaking to me.
Then again, had it not looked like a shadow of its former self, it might not have haunted me as much...

--------------------------------------------------

This sheet of paper is from a store called 'Action' so it's not really from a big scrapbooking brand. It suited the picture perfectly though: the colors and the scrolls that resemble the Victorian scrollwork as well as the waves.
Sadly the picture isn't mine, I found it on the net. We were never around at that hour with such beautiful skies.

To enhance the wavelike swirl theme, I used a #timholtz stencil with modeling paste. Slightly blended it with #tatteredangels #glimmermist 'Crushed Shells' but since that did not show enough, I sprayed it on some more afterwards. I sprinkled on (a little more than I wanted to) #Prima #finnabair Artstones and #13Arts glassfiller.
Later on I sprayed the big swirl with some #tatteredangels #glimmermist 'Coral Reef'.

Sprayed some #tatteredangels #glimmermist 'Coral Reef' here and there on the paper, allowing it to drip as well.
Using black ink I stamped a gate image all over the paper.

Then came the time to try my new #artextravagance #finnabair #rustpaste! The jars are tiny but the contents work great. I love how quickly it dries, unlike my #VivaDecor #RustyPaper. Wasn't sure how to use the yellow though, I think they should have added a patina blue to the set instead of this. But the result is like real rust! LOVE!
The figurine is from a #prima #IOD mould, by the way. And the lovely hanging clock with the beautiful scrolls is a #Scrapiniec chipboard piece. The face of the clock was covered with #onestepcracklemedium to add to its aging.

So, time to put everything in its place. Used some flowers, leaves, metal embellishments, straws, branches and for the title I used some rub on letters from #Makingmemories.

Unfortunately I had to go and lay this layout in ruins as well as the subject...
The black ink splatters that I added all over the page were too intense. Some of the paper flowers soaked up the ink and it all became a big black blur.
Luckily there is #gesso and #Inkagold. I used 'Apricot' and 'Browngold'. Also I used some more #tatteredangels #glimmermists, 'Chalkboard French Vanilla' for splattering over the page, and for some accents 'Walnut Gold' and 'Latte'.

I will leave you with some more close-ups of my layout. If you do like it, please let me know. I didn't have enough time because of my boy who fell ill and has been throwing up for a couple of days, otherwise I would have made another one. Seriously.
